Saturna trustees seek report on shoreline bylaw file

The Saturna Island Local Trust Committee requested a staff report on bylaw file SA-BE-2023.1 (Gaines) after a public discussion about shoreline erosion, water supply and a shoreline structure complaint. [1]
The committee also requested a report with options for initiating a project to develop subdivision regulation standards for water supply. [1]
During the discussion, trustees recorded that further steps were needed before implementing a rainwater-catchment requirement through the bylaw. [1]
The committee noted that a property owner can apply for a variance to take steps to protect against shoreline erosion, and that green shore protection and other softer practices are options to lessen impacts to the natural environment of the sea. [1]
The committee’s next regular meeting is scheduled for April 24, 2025, at the Saturna Recreation and Cultural Centre. [1]
