Saturna trustees recommend Trust Policy Statement not proceed
The Saturna Island Local Trust Committee cited community meeting comments and an evolving provincial reconciliation framework in its recommendation to Trust Council.

The Saturna Island Local Trust Committee recommended that proposed Trust Council Bylaw No. 183 not proceed, citing opinions expressed at a community information meeting and saying the province’s legislative framework for Reconciliation is in flux.[1]
The recommendation followed a meeting about the draft Trust Policy Statement, which staff said provides high-level guidance for Official Community Plans, strategic planning, regulatory bylaws and inter-governmental relationships.[1]
Members of the public raised concerns about the draft’s specificity, public engagement, local autonomy, reconciliation and the role of the Executive Committee.[1] Director Clare Frater encouraged members of the public to continue sharing feedback and said specific input about policies was particularly useful.[1]
The committee’s motion was carried on January 29. Public feedback and referral responses are to be provided to Trust Council for consideration before adoption.[1]
