Draft Bylaw No. 143 will proceed to First Nations and agency referrals, while staff prepare options for increasing zoning flexibility for housing on Saturna Island.[1]

The Saturna Island Local Trust Committee also directed staff to add a review of land-use-bylaw subdivision regulations to the future projects list.[1]

The staff report said the draft bylaw would require a minimum cistern capacity of 21820 litres for new residential or visitor-accommodation construction, or additions exceeding 11.6 square metres, and would expand references from “rainwater” to “freshwater.”[1]

The report said the draft would also expand areas where secondary suites are permitted to include some properties moved into lower saltwater-intrusion risk categories by updated data.[1]

Staff said a review of subdivision regulations, including potable-water standards, would require significant community input and was unlikely to be completed by the end of the current term.[1]
